Established in 1987 by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, NEIGRIHMS is an autonomous institute and a symbol of healthcare excellence in the northeastern region. Located in the picturesque city of Shillong, Meghalaya, the institute spans over 350 acres and serves as a tertiary care referral hospital, medical college, and research center.

Our mission is to provide accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare services to the people of Northeast India while advancing medical education and pioneering research in regional health challenges. With state-of-the-art infrastructure and a team of dedicated professionals, NEIGRIHMS handles over 300,000 outpatient visits and 15,000 inpatient admissions annually.

Medical Education

NEIGRIHMS is a premier teaching institution offering various undergraduate, postgraduate, and super-specialty medical programs. Our educational philosophy emphasizes clinical excellence, research orientation, and compassionate patient care.

Undergraduate Programs

MBBS program with 150 seats annually. The curriculum integrates basic sciences with clinical exposure from the first year, following competency-based medical education as per NMC guidelines.

Postgraduate Programs

MD/MS programs in 24 broad specialties with 125 seats. DM/MCh programs in Cardiology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Gastroenterology, and other super-specialties.

PhD Programs

Doctoral programs in basic medical sciences and clinical research. Interdisciplinary research opportunities with state-of-the-art laboratory facilities.

NEIGRIHMS is at the forefront of medical research addressing regional health challenges. Our research focuses on tropical diseases, genetic disorders prevalent in indigenous populations, cancer epidemiology, and public health interventions.
